These Red Velvet Cupcakes are moist and soft cupcakes. Perfect combination with whipped cream cheese frosting on top. Easy and delicious!


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • ½ cup salted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk (1 cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 0z (112g) cream cheese (room temp)
  • ½ cup whipping cream (chilled)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • To make the buttermilk, just combine the milk and vinegar.
  • In a large bowl, combine and sift the dry ingredients.
  • Mix well and set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, combine sugar and melted butter.
  • Mix until well blended.
  • Add eggs one at a time. Mix well.
  • Add vanilla extract, buttermilk and vinegar. Mix to combine.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients.
  • Mix until well combined. Do not overmix.
  • Add the red food coloring.
  • Beat the batter until well blended.
  • Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  • Scoop the batter about 1/4 cup each.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350 F/ 175 C for 25 minutes.
  • Place in a cooling rack and cool completely.

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • In a large bowl, beat the whipping cream on medium to high speed until thick and fluffy. Set aside.
  • Beat cream cheese until light and fluffy.
  • Mix the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
  • Beat just to combine.
  • Add the powdered sugar. Beat until well blended.
  • Scoop the cream cheese frosting into the piping bag.
  • Pipe the frosting on top of the cupcakes.
