FILIPINO-STYLE CHEESY BAKED MACARONI

Ingredients:

  • 600g elbow macaroni
  • 600g ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, minced
  • 6 pieces hotdogs, sliced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper
  • 1 pack spaghetti sauce (900g)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 beef broth cube
  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter

Cheese Sauce Topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 cup quickmelt cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose cream
  • 2 cups fresh milk
  • salt and pepper to taste

Procedures:

  • Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Cook until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a pan, add ground beef and 2 cups water. Boil the meat for about 15 minutes.
  • Once cooked, drain and set aside.
  • In a large pan, melt the butter.
  • Saute onion, garlic and bell pepper. Add hotdogs and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Once cooked, add the boiled meat.
  • Add beef broth cube. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the spaghetti sauce and 3/4 cup water. Simmer for 15 minutes over low heat.
  • Add grated cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted.
  • Add the cooked macaroni to the sauce. Mix well.
  • Transfer to a baking dish. Set aside while making cheese sauce.

Cheese Sauce Topping

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter.
  • Add all-purpose flour. Whisk flour to combine.
  • Add milk, all-purpose cream and quickmelt cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mix continuously until the cheese is melted.
  • Pour the cheese sauce on top of macaroni.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 190 C for 30 minutes.
